He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman.
He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.

Artistic Vision

I have always lived in Northwestern Ontario. I was born and raised in Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay ) and was brought up to appreciate and enjoy the north woods.

I moved into a very rural area (Nolalu) 25 years ago and fell in love with the forest and the wildlife there. Being able to actually live in a place where I had formerly only camped, canoed and skied was a revelation. The forest has always contained a sense of mystery and awe for me. There are creatures and spirits living there that rarely appear; are mostly sensed and are sometimes glimpsed from the corners of our eyes.

Putting up a bird feeder and constantly being entertained by the birds that frequent it, allowed me to work on trying to portray their personalities in wooden constructions enhanced with carving, wire, glass, and bright acrylic colours. They make me happy.

In my art, I try to portray the sense of life and beauty these creatures bring to our increasingly urban world.
